I love this, and have long felt exactly the same.I do, however, have something to add: Even if it is true what Gary was saying — that it takes some element of struggle and hard work to succeed as an entrepreneur, I don’t think the message should be “work yourself to death, or you don’t want it badly enough.” There’s a big difference between working hard and struggling at the start, and working yourself to death. In every business I’ve ever built, I worked hard — but I didn’t have to work myself to death, at the expense of my health, my relationships, or my happiness, which seems to be, accordinging to GaryVee, the only way to succeed. Teaching a generation of wantrepreneurs that you have to sacrifice every semblance of a healthy, happy life if you want to succeed is NOT the message. As entrepreneurs, we choose the hard path of entrepreneurship, and we make a lot of sacrifices…. income security, the ability to completely “shut out” work at 5pm, the stress of making payroll… but in exchange for those sacrifices, we should get something back: the freedom to work on what we want, when we want, with whom we want. Otherwise, what’s the point? If you want to work yourself to death, go be an investment banker… they make lots of money, hate their lives, have no free time. Why bother being an entrepreneur?
